    Re: angolan python

    Hi,

I can't help with the temps but, while we're waiting for the smarter people to get here, I can give some advice on the regurge.

You need to wait after a snake regurges to give it time to recover - it is a lot more stressfull for a snake to puke than it is for mammals like us.

If you feed it before its gut bacteria have had time to recover it is more likely to regurge again which makes it even more likely it will do it again.

What size is the snake and where did you get it?

Can you give us a rundown of the enclosure and temps/ humidity you are currently using?

I have an Angolan. Before anyone can help, we need a lot more info...
How old is the snake ? How long have you had her ? Has she eaten well for you before, or have those problems started right after you got her? Why was she fed 2 hamsters ??? Were the hamsters full grown? Was she fed live ?
Its possible the meal was to big for her and she regurged. Then you didn't wait long enough and stressed her with force feeding.

Please give us a lot more info on the snake herself as well as your setup. But its safe to say the snake needs a BREAK from feeding, and def. no force feedings. I will follow up after I get a bit more info.

My angolan seems to like it SLIGHTLY cooler then the BP's. Hot side is around 90 to 93 degrees, cool side in the low 80's . She hangs mostly in the cooler area. However, a sick snake may need the warmth...

zina10 & dr del: HI!! my snake is already 3 years old, i raise her from juvenile til now, i feed russian hamsters for all my full grown snakes, so she is not the first time to handle hamsters as her prey and the hamsters are full grown, she hve been feeding hamsters for 1 year already, the setup is exactly the breeding racks, with just a water bowl and a heat pad with max hot spot 91 fahrenheit, but now i have a new setup since this happened, i added an extra shoe box for her whih is above the heat pad, after 3 days of observing, she stays on top of the shoe box which has the te at least 100 fahrenheit.

Since she is an adult, she can go for a long time without food without any harm.
Perhaps the two hamsters were to much for her that time and she regurged. After that you stressed her with force feeding and her digestive system didn't have time to recuperate yet. Force feeding is extremely stressful for a snake and possibly reason enough to regurgitate.
If your husbandry is spot on, I would give that snake at LEAST a 3 week break from feeding, to try and get her to heal her digestive system as well as de-stress. If she shows interest in food after that time, I would offer one appropriately sized rodent. And then give her at least 10 days before attempting again. No handling or stressing until this is resolved.
The region angolans come from, has extreme temperatures. It gets very hot, but also very cold. To be safe I would offer her hides in both cool and warm end of the enclosure to make sure she can thermoregulate and doesn't have to choose safety over temps. 100 Fahrenheit seems high, but if she seeks out the warm area , there might be a reason for it. Just make sure she cannot burn herself.

Well, thats just what I would try. If this doesn't work, its time for a visit to the Vet !

    Good luck

    Re: angolan python

I kept them like balls, 32°C hot spot.
100F is really high, angolans are good feeders so if they refuse or puke I would change temps or go to a vet!
