    Spouse's/Significant others and you herps...

So I gotta know... Any other spouses/sig others think you are crazy for you obsession with your reptiles? Mine thinks I spend too much time on the ones I have... I am curious to see spousal reactions with the people that own more than 5 and/or breed.

My husband has always been scared of snakes. In the mid 90s our son bought himself a bp, my husband was not too keen on it but let him keep it. I have always loved reptiles, especially snakes, but honored his fears. Then call it "mid-life-crisis" or something close to that I just decided I wanted snakes in my life again. 23 snakes later he doesn't even notice(?), but sometimes he does question my sanity when he asks what I've paid for just one snake (i.e. my piebald bps). After 32 1/2 yrs. he knows not to try to tell me no!

Re: Spouse's/Significant others and you herps...

My boyfriend is very supportive of my hobby. He just does not like handling the snakes, he fears he will be bitten. I have tried to console him and tell him that it would not hurt that badly. I respect my boyfriend and he has the right to say no when it comes to handling the snakes. My boyfriend is into boating. He has a boat and he likes to go out on the water quite a few times in the summer. I support him just like he does me with my snakes.

They don't bother her, she don't bother them. She only asks that I double check the tubs to make sure there are no escapes.

My wife is all for it. She's not too keen on the thought of breeding, but once she realized we could possibly get the snakes we wanted through breeding our snakes (bee for example) she was all for it. She wants some het pieds next.

Well, I live with my mother and my grandma. My grams doesn't know I have snakes or she would probably have a heart attack. My mom doesn't care for them to much, but doesn't complain about them anymore. Most of my family just gives me a hard time about it, joking that they will make boots out of them and what not.

As for the dating scene, I've never dated a guy who liked snakes. My last ex I met on a dating site actually lied to me about liking animals in the first place and told me that the reason why myself and my mom have so many animals.. is because animals don't let you down, like everyone else does. He wanted me to move in with him after 2 months, and get rid of my pets. But when It came to being around his friends he'd brag to them how cool I was for having them, then put me down about it behind the scenes.

Soooo, basically. If ya'll are single.. man is it a pain in the butt to find a decent guy who likes snakes.. that isn't taken, or married! lol

    I'm just not lookin' anymore

Re: Spouse's/Significant others and you herps...

He went from "I don't like snakes and do not want one in my house" to "another one?" to having one he now calls his own.

He understand having one or two probably thinks I am a bit crazy for having over 60 but the bottom line is that he supports me no matter what my interests are even if unusual.

My boyfriend is still afraid of the snakes, hes a little less afraid but he doesn't want to see them or hear about them or hold them, or see me hold them. The geckos are another story entirely. He'll watch them and handle them or hold one for me if I'm doing some cage maintenance. He doesnt love them the way I do but absolutely respects my love for them and what I'm doing with them and how good of care I take of them.

My wife doesn't want anything to do with my snakes but she's cool with it as long as I do all the cleaning She's not happy with the rats in the freezer either that's why I double zip lock my frozen rats.

I ask her opinion and show her pictures on what morph to get next to get her involved with the hobby and she ends up choosing the more expensive ones and she complains about the prices. I like her taste, that's why we ended up with an albino and pied she hates normals and brown looking snakes. I haven't showed her the mystic potions yet.

I could just imagine if my wife also loves snakes...
