Forgive me if this is in the wrong place, I'm having issues viewing the site correctly.
Today is feeding day for all my reptiles. I was having issues with my oldest male (late '09) eating the last couple weeks so I pre-scented for about 10 minutes in the room and he took his no problem.
Here's where it gets weird though. I dropped a small rat into my new Pastel's enclosure (we're working on switching to F/T but no interest yet) she wasn't showing much interest but after a little movement from the rat she struck. Now since I'm waiting on my heat tape we have them all in glass enclosures right now, I usually wait till they wrap up well then slide the lids back on and leave them to it. Well sliding her lid on must have startled her and she stopped wrapping the rat!!! Now this little guy had some obvious crushed ribs and a busted jaw but was still very much alive. I thought for sure Dee would strike and coil again but instead she kept nose bumping it like they do when they're trying to find the head and lo and behold she started trying to swallow the thing alive!!!!!!!! Poor little thing was squealing its head off and she got it almost up to the shoulders before she decided to coil again and actually kill it.
Then, when I thought everything would be fine, she had it killed, almost up to the shoulders again when she just spit it back out! I put her lid back on and covered her tank to give her some more privacy in hopes she'll eat it later but I'm now worried about her.
