    querstion about herpstat nd thermostat

okay i just ordered a herpstat ND proportional t-stat. for my ball python tank. i am currently using a cheesy bigapple bah1000 on/off thermostat for my uth. is it possiable to plug my Herpstat into my on/off bah 1000
as a fail safe ,and just set it a tiny bit above my set temp . so if my herpstat fails the other one will kick it off? is this logical? i've read something like this before on fourms. what is the safest way to use all this?

Re: querstion about herpstat nd thermostat

I'm no electrical wizard so I have no idea how the Herpstat would be affected by being plugged into an On/Off thermostat. I've heard of people using a dual On/Off thermostat and a thermostat with a dimmer but never a combination of the two styles. The Herpstats have a built in fault detector that shuts it off if it fails. To be honest, I think there is a greater chance that the BAH will fail long before the Herpstat will...

Re: querstion about herpstat nd thermostat

I actually had a 500r set with a herpstat as a failsafe for a while. It worked fine I tested it by heating the test enclosure (steam washer) and the herpstat shut off the power to the UTH and then a second later the 500r killed the power to the herpstat. I stopped bothering because the 500r is very twitchy and worried more about it than the herpstat. I set up that system after reading this from Dion.
