substrate question

I'm currently using a bark substrate and i don't like it. Its very dusty but it keeps the humidity well. i want to change the substrate but i need something that will be good with humidity problems.

I've always been told that cypress works well to keep humidity up, but you could always use paper towels and offer a humid hide or two in addition to normal hides.

i use aspen and have no shed probems

Aspen, also during shed, if you house ur bp in a tank with a sceen lid, u could soak a towel in some warm water, ring it out and place it over half the screen, it keeps the humity up really good for me, always get good one piece sheds. and repeat once the towel is all dried out

I like coco peat / coil like Trex forest bed it is cheap 20$ for 121L It lasts 20 changes for me and kinda clumps when wet really easy to remove soiled bits. I used to use cyprus and then a mix coco cyprus then I stopped bothering with the cyprus as it was a bit of a pain to clean out (I vacuum first then sterilize) It holds humidity well almost too well I dry it a day or two before I use it but the best part unlike cyprus when it drys out you can re wet it and it re-absorbes the water.

I swear by Eco-Earth expandable dirt substrate. It holds humidity very, very well and is extremely resistant to mold.

Same as what I use it is a by product of coconuts. It is great.

I also thought or Melaleuca mulch it is better than cyprus as it is an invasive species in florida, rather than use a tree that is important to the eco system use one that is a 'pest' It is really hard to find up here in ns canada however.

Same here. Always worked best for me !
