Hi,
It sounds as though it is doing what it is supposed to. What makes you think it is a fire hazard?

idk , it just makes me nervous the way that the thermostat kicks on and off every few minutes and turning the heat mat back on.
i'd say about every five to ten minutes its switching on or off . is ok to just leave it turning off and on like that? is this what everyone does?

they make "proportional" t-stat that regualtes the power so that the UTh stays on fulltime just the supplied wattage changes, saves it slicking on and off all the time. might ease your mind

The thermostat you have is perfectly safe. It is operating as intended. This thermostat was designed to turn on and off to regulate the temps.
Good Luck!
