How old can a female BP be and still produce viable eggs?
I guess another way of saying it is " How old is too old to breed a BP?"

i think it all depends on the snake itself. when she stops producing she stops producing.

Sure, but as with most aspects of breeding, there are many general rules.
So what would be the "general rule" for when a female will stop producing.

I've heard of females older than 20 years still producing.

Re: How old can a female BP be and still produce viable eggs?
My oldest female produced a healthy clutch when she was 19 several years ago. I haven't bred her since because she has been very slow to put weight back on, but she's very healthy and I wouldn't doubt that she could produce more if she ever gets her figure back.

I beleive I read in VPI's book that there was a 30+ old female that produced viable eggs, might have been 38. Don't quote me on it do.

I wonder if ball pythons have been bred long enough for there to be answer to your question. Ball python breeding didn't really kick off till the 90s.

Hmm. I bet with snakes in captivity they can be bred a LOT longer into their lives, since they are better cared for and have optimal conditions, therefore they live longer and are often healthier.
My guess would be they could keep reproducing as long as they have the body weight for it. But, I don't think there's any one right answer...
Interesting question.
