Another Question...

Ok guys last week my snake was really relaxed and allowing me to handle him but now he is very skiddish.... When I walk in the room he just backs into his hide and a few days ago he was in the strike postion.. I saw on youtube that you should touch there head gentle to stop the strike so I did he calmed down and went into his hide....the last few days I've let him relax and hide as he wants I checked his breathing no sound of RI.... Should I be worried or is this normal he is about 2months old normal....

Well I'm pretty new to this so I'll let other chime in. It seems baby's are really defensive from everything I have read it's something they usually grow out of when they gain more confidence and size.

This is normal behavior for a snake that is so young. I have a four month old male BP that hisses at me every time I touch him. I don't let the hissing stop me from picking him up when I need to. I do try not to over handle my snake so as to reduce stress.

it might have seemed like a strike position but more than likly it wasnt bp tend to curl up into a ball hence the name ball python when threatened , plus i never heard of touching the head to calm them down...there not fond of having there head touch at all actually, i mean maybe some old ones may tolerate a pet on the head a young one def will most likly jump back quick, has he eatn yet since you had him? plus its always good to give a week or two even before handling, personly i would make sure hes feeding before any kind of excessive handling, jst to be sure hes not getting to stressed out. and of course these are only my opinions. im by no means an expert.

Yeah me too.... I handle him only when needed before feeding cleaning other than that I let him be.... I just want him to be healthy.... This is my first snake so how long does it take for them to tollerate us....

Actually my little guy(2-3 months old) has no problem being pet on the head as long as it's done using slow movements.

He does get pretty freaked out by shadows though, so whenever I got to pick him up I have to make sure I'm not blocking the light or he'll curl up.

Funny thing is, that's how he acts just after a fresh shed. When he's shedding, he's actually really relaxed, which I assume comes from the fact that he can't see me well.

I've had him for about a month now he has eaten 3 times really good I think he is just spooked I had to move his tube on day to clean an I startled him so Im going to let him chil for about a week then try handling again...
