    Do BP's swim

I was just wondering because today when I put my snake in a tub of water to soak - the water was only about 1.5" deep - she could easily keep her head above the water but when I looked at her she had her had under the water - I panic'd thinking she was drowning herself.

Just curious - is it normal for them to swin underwater like that??

    Thanks

Can a BP swim? Only one way to find out!
Just kidding of course. When soaking the water should never be higher than half way up their body. Its normal for them to get scared and hide their head under the water, but they will raise it to take a breath. Just in case though they should always be supervised while soaking.

Oh - okay. Maybe I did put the water just a tad too deep. I just worried that she would try to breath under the water - I guess they are smarter than that.

    Thanks.

id say they def can, but like the post above says,'always supervise'. i dont think its really in there nature to swim unlike some other species of python and boas in the wild that would feel more comfortable swiming.remeber bp's come from a dryer arid region of africa, other than a quick drink i dont think there to reluctant to jump in and take a swim lol

they can hold their breath for a very long time, i wouldn't worry about it. I've thrown a few of my smaller snakes in the bathtub to soak and they just swim around go underwater if you scare em, but usually they just periscope above the water. bigger snakes just crawl out of the bathtub tho lol.

I've never herd of a snake drowning itself.

Ball pythons can swim, and they are not too bad at it. However, if they get exhausted and could not get out of the water, they may drown.
