    Probing depths...

I have this BP that I've had for over a year now and we named him Craig cause we got him off of craigslist. We took him into a reptile store here in Vegas and got him sexed as a male. They probed him right in front of us, and being as that was the time I had decided to learn about breeding, I had no idea what the difference was.

Now that I am a little more experienced, we decided to learn how to probe a couple weeks ago. I've probed ALL my snakes now and have gotten very accurate results. All my boys probed boys for me and all my girls probe girl. EXCEPT for this one.

When I probed him I only got 4 subcaudals and it stopped. So I took him back into the store and they probed him and got the same 4 I got and told me anything over 3 is a male. Is this right? EVERYWHERE I've read said 2-4 is a female and 6-10 is a male. So what is my curious 4? Should I take him/her out of the tank with the other males? Im worried if I put him/her in with females, he might actually be a male and get one of them pregnant. I've tried popping him, but Im still very new at that and he doesnt want to cooperate, and Im not going to force it. I have my other male him size who as soon as you touch his vent, he pops himself for you hahaha Guess he's in the mood hahaha

Also, what sex is it if you probed 5 scales? Since its right in between female and male, Im just curious in case I ever run into that.

Why do you have him in a tank with other males anyway?

Snakes are solitary animals, they should be housed separately.

Because thats how I've always had them and there has never been a problem with it. My oldest is 19 years old and everyone is happy and content. See no reason to change it.

Ok well everyone does there thing differently and this is how I do mine. It works for me, so please, any other comments on this are not necessary.

I would appreciate some comments on my actual question though...

    Re: Probing depths...

I've had females probe 4 to 5 scales. Never had a male at 5 or less. I've never popped an adult / sub-adult male, but I have used a similar technique to expel sperm plugs from mature males. Just my personal experience.

Yeah I've gotten those sperm plugs as well, i get nothing when I try to pop this one. I think Im leaning towards a female on this. but its hard to feel comfortable with it when you have an "expert" tell you differently. Makes you question yourself
