Determining ball genetics, no background?

I've had my ball Enzo for just over three years and have started to wonder whether it's possible to determine his "color" genetics. My folks got him from a pet store so I don't know what Enzo's parents were. He appears normal/standard for a ball but I think his parents could have been almost anything. How can I find out? I ask because he may be used for casual breeding someday if I get into it.

If he looks normal, 99.999% of the time, their normal. Even if his dad and mom were both pastel/lesser/cinny/pin/spiders, he is still a normal and he didn't aquire any of those genes, so he just as useful for breeding as a normal ball that came form a standard normalx normal pairing. ball pythons what you see is usually what you get.

Without background info...all you can do is assume.

A few years ago I bred a pastel to one of my 'normals'....got 4 eggs...hatched a normal and 3 hypos.

My normal was sold to me as a normal....and my pastel was sold to me as a pastel.

Since it was purchase in a pet store chances are it was a fresh CH import.

Stores such as Petco, and Petsmart get CH each year.

Now if it came from a small pet store it could have been a CB however there is no way to tell the genetics of the parents, and even if you could it would not matter in most cases, if it is the product of Dom or Co-dom X normal all that makes him is Co-dom or Dom sibling in other word just a normal which will have no bearing in your future projects.

Some breeders also sell their poss hets to pet stores sometimes (I have in the past) however again it would mean a chance of being a het, and to determine if it is or not and for what it would take YEARS to do so, and at the price of hets those days, not sure if it would be worth the time and effort.

yea, breeding with same pair is the only way to tell for sure
