also i forgot to ask if it had red eyes or if that was just the camera.....
if so than it could have been albino! theres alot of different animals that can carry the albino gene so its possible....

thank you it was a very odd catch. Ive caught thousands of channel cats and this one stop me dead in my tracks when I had landed him. If I wasnt a snake guy too I wouldnt know what to call it. I dont know if I would call it a paradox...but what do you call it? Its just a catfish with black pigments all over its body and inside the mouth all the way down his throat.I cant even find anything online to help me out. Oh well its swimming freely unharmed back in its lake.

no it didnt have red eyes, atleast I dont think it was very dark though. Pry just the camera reflecting off its eyes kinda like a headlights on a deer, I wish it did though!!! that would be cool. I thinking about getting a fiberglass mold of this fish. Its def out of the ordinary.

I guess you'd have to call that phenomenon increased melanin production in that catfish.
Kudos to you for releasing it!
I too have caught thousands of channel cat in my day, I've NEVER seen anything like that. I've seen albinos in aquariums, though never in the wild, but a polka-dot channel cat ? Nope.

Re: Paradox???
Paradox means it expresses 2 different morphs at the same time. not the right way to explain it i guess, but for example in snakes 1 part of the snake might look albino and the other looks completly normal.
the theory is that twins are born inside the egg and at some point come together, 1 being the morph and 1 being different.

Paradox is an not genetic its something that is on the snake that shouldn't be but is like black on an albino or dark black on lessers and so on the trait is not passed down but just random and out of the ordinary
Nice catch!

thanks everybody, so its not a "paradox" channel cat. I cant find a picture or anything online about it either so maybe I could give it my own name, Dalmation Morph fits well haha. Whatever it is or whatever mutation happened to it, I really like this fish. Maybe this will be the next thing to take off morphs in catfish. Could your imaging a dreamsicle channel cat in an aquarium??? I would have to have it!!! hahahaa
