    Aspen Beeding....

Ok now I have been using Premier Pet Aspen bedding (can be found at Petsmart, Petco and tractor supply). Now it is normally in BIG chips and not dusty at all. But this new bag that I have been using, I have noticed that there are red chunks of wood as well as a dust that is at the bottom of the tubs under the bedding (it is a burgundy color like the big chips). Now I am just curious what aspen bedding do your guys use and is this ok for my snakes? I need to buy in bulk because I have 9 BPs and all adutls except for my new girl (who is on paper towels) so snake (shredded) bedding is kindof out of the question.
Thanks for the help in advance.

    Re: Aspen Beeding....

I just started using this as well. On the bag it says oil and scent free. I too have some red chunks inside the mix as well. I am a litte worried about those...what if they are not aspen and somehow they mixed in Cedar?

I am curious what others think........

    Re: Aspen Beeding....

I use this brand for my rats when my regular distributor is slow with the really big bags I get.
I've noticed changes several times over the past couple of years in their shredding process which at times makes this aspen REALLY dusty.
I've bought it when it was large chunks and when it was basically shredded.
They can't seem to make up their minds on how they want to produce it, or the shredder blades get dull and the aspen comes out different depending on which shredder they use.
I generally toss them since there is only a few of them in a bag.

I get aspen from concord pets ( it an 8.0 cubic ft bag compressed for about 25 bucks I have 29 snakes aright now and can do evey tub about 2x or more ) I been dumping the old stuff outside and using it for flower bed mulch. I think it the kaytee brand ( need to pick up about 2 bags of it and another 5 of pine for rodents)
Ask your pet shop cause they may be able ot specail order it for you ( I had to and then they just keep about 2-3 bags in since I refered a few other to them )
I will just be so glad when the hatchlnigs are all eating this month out of the egg and not eating getting old.

Yea I don't think I want to risk it any longer. I am thinking about buying some snake bedding right quick and until i can find a better subsitute.
