    grumpy snake

My baby ball python is deep in shed. I had to pull him out yesterday to clean his enclosure and he was less then thrilled. He hissed at me. I know this is normal but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience with their snakes.

Mine get cranky and agitated when they are in shed. My BP will hiss at me, the boas try to get away...fast...

I have several that hiss at me any ole time I take them out, but they never bite.
In shed its quite common to get hissed at because they feel threatened at that moment.

It's not uncommon at all to have a hissy critter. They have different personalities, just like us. Most of mine never hiss. I've got a couple that hiss every time I pick them up. I just laugh and do what I have to do.

    Re: grumpy snake

When my female goes into hardcore shed, she digs all the way down to the substrate under the water bowl. And stays there for a few days. She just acts indifferent toward everything, because when I pick up the water bowl to refill it and check on her she just sits there and looks at me like, "can you put that back please? kthanx." She's never hissed at me though.

My bf's male on the other hand, if you get NEAR his tank when he goes into a big shed he'll hiss and get pissy. Never strike, but he'll throw a fit. This includes going to turn the fogger on, turning on and off lights, and moving a hand in front of the tank. He's usually only that bad for the first day and a half-ish. Then just stays in his hide with his body over his head until he's done shedding.

2 out of my 3 snakes does that.. specially if they dont wanna be lifted but i lift them anyway but never really stroke. i only had 1 snake stike at me and he was inside his cage and i was just walking by the cage and he hit the plastic wall (sterilite).. that must have sorta hurt her somehow so i picked her up after that and petted her.. i think she was surprised that i was walking and thought i'm a threat on that instance. never happened again.
