Russo Het for White Diamond

I picked up a Russo Het for White Diamond at the Daytona Show. He's only 82 Grams, so breeding is a ways off. My female normal is a year old and 600 grams. My question is if I breed him with her in a year, and am lucky enough to get a het female, I'd have to wait until she is old enough to breed back to my male.

The other option is to get a het for White Diamond female. Am I right in the assumption that all of their offspring would be either White Diamond or het for white diamond? What else can I make with this male? Should I get another one or a different male? I would also have to switch from tanks to tub/rack.

No you are not correct, they have a possibility of being normal. I've seen people confuse this plenty of times, here's a way of understanding the odds.

Breeding two hets is like flipping two quarters. Flipping a heads is like passing on the abnormal trait, while flipping tails is like passing on the wild type trait.

If they both land heads, you get a homozygous animal.

If one is heads and one is tails, you have a heterozygous animal.

If both are tails, you have a normal.

Statistically, the chances for each egg:

25% homozygous
50% heterozygous
25% normal

So the odds of getting a het female if I bred him to my normal female are about the same? Maybe I should have just gotten a visual morph and not thought about breeding?

It's a cool looking snake anyway, you can tell it's not a normal.
