breeding setup

what would be an average cost and what would i all need like to know befor i get into
nothing speicial just an average breeding setup maybe for a 4.4 setup. hust wantto know whet ill be getting into before i start

I am a new breeder and thought I could do it all for a descent price......not so much. I have a 10 snake melamine rack with Sterilite tubs. The wood was $150, heat tape was $40 (including shipping and clips), thermostat $140, and tubs $110. I also bought a temp gun $40, a couple Accurite thermometers/hydrometers $25, water bowls $40, Provent-A-Mite $25, Chlorohexadine cleaner $25, substrate, etc. So, my rack was around $500 with my electronics/cleaners.

My incubator was around $150 (I made it myself). My snakes eat every 5-7 days so I go through about 10 small rats a week (40 small rats a month). I am lucky and live 20 minutes from Big Cheese, so it only costs me about $40 per month. I guess my whole set-up to get started was about $700 without the snakes.

You also have to think about a quarentine rack, which costs me another $60 to build, $30 in tubs, $140 thermostat, and $20 in heat tape, so another $250 or so. My hatchling rack will cost me about $250 too.

thanks for the info i figured ill start off small till i get the hang of things learn the rope. doing my research before i get started. better to have it done right than half way through somthing isnt right if you no what i mean.

It can be done cheaper than listed above, as I've probably spent half of that (maybe less) on similar setups. But it's not cheap by any means, so you definitely have to be prepared for the financial commitment. Also a great idea to be well-informed and heavily researched, before jumping into breeding snakes.

I just bred my first clutch after about 18 months of snake ownership, which might seem a bit fast - but I'm like a sponge when I have strong interest in something, and literally soak up all the information I read. Helps that I'm a reference librarian too, LOL. So I did know exactly what I was getting into, and planned VERY well for everything that was involved. I started with only one clutch, which I think was a good idea to "get my feet wet." Good luck in whatever you end up doing!
