Angolan Zina pictures...

Here are a couple more pictures of Zina. She is now a feeding monster ! She would probably eat every other day if I would let her, LOL.

I've also handled her more between feedings and she is calm as can be. The only hard part is getting her out, as she didn't like to be "grabbed". She can move fast then. Fast as in trying to get away, not striking at least, hehe.

Since I didn't want to stress her, I opened the door and she just gets curious and comes out on her own. No problem, then. No stress. Last time reached for her slowly and again, no panic. She is really starting to relax. Her confidence must be going up, as she will often lay out in the open in her tank, rather then in the hides.

She still expects food as soon as the cage opens, but I take the hook and gently lower hear head. From then on she is out of "feeding mode".

Anyway, here is Zina. Not the best pictures as she is getting bigger and I tried to hold her and make pictures at the same time...

I also wonder about her coloration. All of the angolan pythons I've seen (in person or pictures) have a distinct "reddish" tone in their coloration. Sometimes lighter, sometimes darker, but definitely "reddish" or reddish brown, tan.

Zina has no red whatsoever. Not light, dark or mixed in. When I got her I thought it was because she was so small (late starter) or young. But as she is growing, there is no reddish coming in.

Can snakes still change dramatically later on in life (she is 2 years old) ? Wonder if she will stay "red-less" LOL

That is rather intriguing. I've never really looked at Angolans before, but man is she pretty! I don't know if it'll come in later in life (not quite the expert here) but it'd be really neat if she didn't develop the red. Even if she did, she's a fine snake

After looking at more pictures online, I did see a couple other Angolans without the red in them. Perhaps there are different lines that have different colorations.

Most of them also have the pattern in stripes or blotches that go from side to side, Zinas is mostly blotches along the spine, some of the elongated along the spine.

She ate a big meal 2 days ago and is sitting in her cage halfway out of the hide, watching me. Guess its handling time again

That's a great animal.. i like they head so much resembling balls.. How's the temperament ??

Every time I see one of these Angolan pythons I am very intrigued. They are so interesting, and they do have cute faces like ball pythons.

The temperament is similar to Ball Pythons, but they are just a bit "more" snake. Hard to explain, but they are faster and more intense. They also get bigger. They aren't as shy and far more curious. Also, none of the feeding problems.

That said, Zina was an exceptions. Slow starter and very shy when I received her. But that has certainly changed. She will hunt and eat with gusto. When I put the rodent in the cage she shoots out of her hide and her tail swishes back and forth, its wild, lol.

She is also not shy anymore.

She used to not be to happy about being "grabbed" to be removed from her cage. She has never hissed or struck or bitten, but she would try to trash around and get away. She doesn't do this anymore.

So "typically" they are like Ball Pythons but the things that some perceive as "negatives" in BP are normally not there. They get bigger, aren't shy, have no feeding issues and are more curious and aware and "there".

Very nice looking Angolan Python, also very nice looking enclosure. Is that a vision tank?

If you don't mind me asking where did you get her? I've been thinking of getting a Angolan Python someday.
