    Thinking of getting a blood...

...in a couple of years once I'm done high school and living on my own. I have one bp now and intend on getting another one or two next year, and I'm going to be moving out in about 5 years, so by then I figure I'll have experience...

So I'm wondering what kind of pets bloods make and whether I should jump right into them like that or if I should invest in another type of constrictor (maybe a red tailed boa first?) before I get a blood.

Not sure about words of wisdom but I will tell you about my own experienced.

Few years ago I was thinking about getting something different (I mainly own ball pythons) and bigger, but not too big either since I care for my animals by myself (husband not into snakes)

Few snakes came to mind and I finally narrowed it down to Bloods.

Even after doing some general researches I was still unsure, so I started emailing Kara Glasgow (BloodPythons.com) asking tons of questions, after our conversation I had a better insight however I was still not sold 100% (I tend to be very cautious when choosing animals simply because I take the responsibility of animal ownership VERY seriously)

What sold me on Bloods was my visit with Kara and having the ability to get up close and personal with some of her animals, and after handling a large female I was knew that a blood was indeed the snake for me.

Do your research, know what to expect husbandry wise and talk to people with hands on experience with bloods, and best of all if you can try to interact with some adult bloods and get a feel for it.
