    Stuck Shed vs. RI

So, my little 227 gr. 1.0 Pastel has had a stuck shed on one eye and around his nose.

He went into shed about a week ago, so I made sure to keep his humidity at 70%-75%. I wanted to make sure it comes off this time.

Well he shed last night/this morning. It was mostly a good shed. The eyes shed, but not the top of the head/face, and around the heat pits/nose. What the crap is going on!? None of my others have had this problem!

Anyway, he opens his mouth about every 20 seconds to breathe. How would you suggest I get this shed off? It's already off of his head/face. The only stuck stuff, now, is around his heat pits/nose. It's like he has a stuffy nose.

I don't see any signs of RI. I've opened his mouth and it seems to be un-irritated, nice and pink, and there are no bubbles or mucus to be seen. He does have a popping sound every now and then with his mouth opening, but I'm pretty sure it's just the darn stuck shed.

I'm soaking him for 30 min. at a time, hoping it does the trick. How often would you suggest? Or maybe soak for longer? Help?

    Will this cause an RI?

His nose is plugged up.. gently hold his head, support his body and start getting the stuck shed off..get the "Nose plugs" as quickly as you can remember he's breathing with his mouth so do not hold his mouth closed..

You could also try to kind of wipe his face with a warm wet washcloth after you soak him and he'll get the picture that it'll help getting rid of the stuck shed on his nose, and he'll start to help you out by rubbing his face on the towel.

    Freakie Frog,

What would you suggest I get it out with? And when you say quickly, do you mean asap, or do it quick so as to get it over with quickly?

I just use my fingers to peel it off..the Nose plugs should come out of the nose with the skin left on the end of the head.. And by ASAP I mean I wouldn't wait till tomorrow. If he has to keep opening his mouth to breath you really run the risk or RI

    Re: Stuck Shed vs. RI

I have had this problem before also and it is very easily fixed with some steady hands and some patience. If you have tweezers try and get the shed in his nose with those, it worked perfectly for me. For the eye shed its another story. Let him soak for a bit so the stuck shed is moist and then use a small piece of masking tape or something not so sticky. VERY gently try and lift the shed on his eye with the sticky side of the tape. Be careful not to press on the eye, and try around the edges of the eye. Good Luck.

    Re: Stuck Shed vs. RI

Thanks for the help on this. I did manage to get the stuck shed from his nose.

I'm having troubles, though, trying to get it off of his lips/heat pits. It's not on all of the pits, but it's on some.

Obviously, he doesn't like me messing with his head. But when I try to gently pull it from his lips, he goes nuts. Kind of like, "OUCH!" What would you do? Wait for the next shed? It's not affecting his breathing. I don't know that it's affecting his eating, as he's always a picky eater...

Hold snake firmly behind the head (they don't care for having their face messed with)--rub the stuck shed gently with a warm, wet paper towel--get all of the stuck areas good and wet. When it starts to peel at the edge, grab it with your fingernails, and slowly peel it off. Probably take you less than a minute.
