Question?
Have you ever gone into a pet store and looked at their Ball Python's and seen a morph they didn't know they had, and do not know anything about morph's and were selling it like a normal Ball?
Here's why I ask in my local pet store in Gillette,WY the only one with reptiles(I plan to change that here soon) there is a axanthic, it's about two feet long not sure of sex he can't prob, but he's got it in a aquarium with two normals and want's the same price for it. Do I take advantage of the situation or inform him that he might be able to get more money. The snake has no other color except black and white no brown or yellow, and he want's about 100.00 for it. Do I jump on it and buy it?

Re: Question?
Also is there such thing as a reduced pattern axanthic? Like I posted this is black and white no other color but it's coloring looks dull whitish like some one poured baby powder on it.

Re: Question?
I would be cautious. Most pet store's probably don't know what they are selling, but most people who sold to the pet store do. It's really hard for any morph to slip through the cracks.
Some snakes will loose color with a shed. It could be just a normal with a color issue. And, most will get their color back with-in a few sheds.
That's my professional opinion. Personally...... I would just on that like white on rice!! Even if it is just a normal, they come in handy every once in a while. If not, you are going to drive yourself crazy asking "why?"

Re: Question?
If it is an axanthic ball python and you tell the guy, Only good Karma will come to you.
Me personally i would "Assume" he knows what he has and buy the snake.
Try posting up pics to make sure it is an axanthic, It would really suck to spend 100$ On a Normal

Re: Question?
I would just buy it if you are 100% sure! Some do get through the cracks, usually the imported snakes! It is a gamble but it may pay off! Show us a pic so the experts can chime in and help you out!

Re: Question?
could be a loss of color that's happening more often, but colors regain after few sheds. Or it could be a bad shed with stuck dry skin all over the snake leaving a grayish color.
Im pretty sure its not what you think it is as they stick out like a sore thumb and well wouldn't be sold at normal prices.

Re: Question?
I agree that the chances of a morph slipping through are slim, but not impossible. I was in a pet store last week looking for some feeders and since they have a fairly decent reptile section I decided to take a look. They had 4 Red Tail Boas sitting in enclosures next to each other. All were about the same size (about 4 ft) and all were priced the same, yet 2 of them were clearly true red tails (BCC). The markings and head shape were unmistakable. I even asked the sales person if the prices were correct and they said yes. If only I had a little more space, I would have brought them home...

Re: Question?
My question...is it male or female and are you a breeder.
Reason I ask is this...
If it's female and you are a breeder...do it. If it turns out to be a normal and you bred it to a visual male, you still get visuals. No loss.
If it's male...and you breed it to a female...and it's a normal...you've wasted a female you could have bred to something you knew was a morph.
See where I am coming from? $100 for a female will be made up in one season of breeding to a visual. (Assuming all eggs hatch etc)
