The little booger bit me! Arrrgghh!
Went through 2 years with these guys... from 200grams to 1700grams... trying to overcome snake phobia... never been bit. Even getting really comfortable with them.
We hatch out a pretty bumblebee and he's the creep snake from hell! Actually all 3 of the guys are.
It's like they transformed overnight too. I've been cleaning the paper towels everyday since they hatched... is it 6 days now? No problem. Then this morning, I go pick up the hide and they're all in s-coils! All 3 of them. So, I get my son to move them out, so he put them on the inverted hide. I go clean everything out and they're still in s-coils, so I pick up the inverted hide intending to just slide the snakes out onto the paper towels and Jack - the bigger bumblebee stretches out his neck and tags me - bam! - right on the wrist. I got so startled I dropped all of them on the floor! It was a high drop too. Like a good 2 feet down!
I was screaming like a banshee, I can't help it. I felt something pinch but I look at my wrist and I couldn't see anything - no puncture, bruise, nothing. But, I'm pretty sure I got bit.
My 9-year-old son had to inspect all of them and put them all back. My snake-phobia was back in full force.
I think I just went down a full 10 notches in my son's cool-mom rating.
Is this normal? I mean, no not me screaming, I'm pretty sure I'm down 10 notches in your herp-keeper rating too. I mean, for these guys to go psycho like that.
No shed yet, so no meals yet either.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Re: The little booger bit me! Arrrgghh!
Lol, I haven't been bitten yet (knock on wood), but I think it's pretty normal in hatchlings. They're awfully skittish and fearful, since I bet in the wild they'd be a snack for bigger animals.

Re: The little booger bit me! Arrrgghh!
Very normal. Baby snakes are convinced that everything is out to eat them, so they go into terminator mode (or just ball up).
My youngest son got bit by a baby that my wife was holding this past weekend, and she was the one that screamed. Personally, I like the snakes that strike. It usually means they're going to be good eaters.

They are still young and very defensive, with time and handling they will get used to you.

You should feel better now that you know they can't hurt you. Once they shed and start eating a little they will calm down. I know I get cranky when my lunch is fully digested and it's almost supper time.

I took my first bite from a baby Carpet Python that my son just got. I think I was more in shock than anything else.
Do you need to go to the emergency room? lol just teasing.. it takes time and lots of handling to get over your fear. Be patient! and keep playing with them.

Re: The little booger bit me! Arrrgghh!
Well, on the upside a feisty baby is usually a good eater. When they're little, everything else is a potential predator and they'll either flee, hide or defend themselves. The first option isn't available to them so it's either ball up and hope you (big scary monster thing) lose interest in them and move on or make themselves look like big tough guys and scare you away. As they get older/bigger they'll settle down and be more relaxed.

Re: The little booger bit me! Arrrgghh!
have you fed them yet? they might be hungry. If its not hunger than everyone else is right, they're just afraid. Tap them (lightly) on the head with something and they should snap out of it.
