    Help building rat rack....

So I was able to grab something from work today that I think would be perfect for building a rat rack out of but I am running into 1 problem that I can't really figure out how to fix....Below are 2 pictures, 1 of the stand itself 2nd is the "shelf" that is there.... So how would you guys go about solving it so I can fashion together something so the tubs just slide in? Would i just build the screen top to sit inside the "shelf" then drill hole through wood and metal and then put little wood spacer then the bottom lip to catch the tub and screw it all together?

Id personally not even attempt it. You would need to have a torch and welder to get it all in the spacing you need.

Id stick with a DIY wood build

torch and welder for what? to raise or lower the levels? they are high enough apart for the tubs to fit with about 4 inches to spare plus they aren't welded in they just pop out with a little hit of a rubber mallet....

Youd be surprised how much work will be needed to modify that compared to building one from ground up.

You would need a way to attach/cut rails to hold the tubs in.

well yea thats what i'm wondering couldn't I just build the screened frame for the top then drill through the frame through the metal and then through the rails and attach with a bolt or no? Only reason I am going this route is cuz if I can do that the only cost to me would be the wire mesh for the top i have the rest the materials as oppposed to buying all the wood and everything to build from scratch

If you have that idea give it a try. Might work might now but i would use screws on that small frame not bolts.

if you got access to a welder, just get some angle iron and weld it up, put some screen down, tack that down and your done.

    Re: Help building rat rack....

Wood for a rat rack runs you about $10-$15 depending on how many levels. If you decide to give this a try, you have to find a tub that fits it perfectly. When I built my rack, I got the tubs first and built the rack itself to suit the tubs.

Definitely keep this thread going if you decide to attempt it. Best of luck
