Re: wooden hide
you see them for sell all the time, but... i would not use wood hides or any wood branches, drift wood in any of my enclouses, if you were to get mites they can get into it lay there eggs and just keep showing up. there are fake ones out there, dont look as good but are safer.

Re: wooden hide
I know they sell them like crazy at the pet stores, but they are almost impossible to really clean feces and urine off of...

Re: wooden hide
If you're talking about those half logs you see at pet stores, those aren't proper hides, anyway. If you're talking about the whole logs with just the center cut out so a snake can crawl in there, they're a pain to get your snake out of. Like Vypyrz said, it would be hard to clean poop/pee off a piece of wood. There have been a few times when I've found poop on the side of my BP's hides and had to clean it off.
You should just stick to plastic/resin hides that are easy to clean and easy to get your snake out of.

That's why you bake the wood in the oven to sterilize it. My BP had a mild case of mites and a piece of driftwood in his cage. I baked the wood in the oven, sprayed a light coating of PAM on it, and haven't seen a mite since.

Re: wooden hide
From time to time I will use a half-log. Not that I think that my ball likes the log, but they actually seem pretty good for when they shed. All other times I use the Reptile Basics hides....

Re: wooden hide
If you decide to put any wood in ...bake it at 275 for an hour. That will kill everything!! I do that for my iguana and my beardie. However with my snakes.....I use all plastic or ceramic for hides
