Will this work ? Heating a large enclosure

In order to get a larger enclosure heated up I am thinking about putting down a frame on the bottom of the wooden vivarium, put down a heat mat and put a sheet of glass on top of that making sure the hide on the warm side gets to a decent 90F and the cold side around 80F and using a radiator mounted to the top middle of the vivarium to keep up the ambient ..

Any thoughts ? Ceramics and infrared bulbs just don't seem to cut it ...

Sounds like a lot of work for a ball python?

Everyone I know that has large enclosures and ball pythons have large enclosures with NON eating ball python.
Your idea sounds do-able, but at what cost and will the snake like it?

I guess I just try to make it work as the viv wasn't cheap

The surface area isn't really large (3ft) but it is quite high (2ft) ...

Putting polycarbonate sheet on top of the cage will help some and putting thick cork board or other insulation material on 3 sides too.

I ended up selling my 55 gallon Exo-Terra on craigs and getting a 30L.

It is a viv stack - on top is another viv

I could try cork board but considering the price it is almost cheaper to build some sort of frame to put diown those heatmats I mentioned ...

You must be talking about one BIG viv.

I think your idea could work, as long as you don't mind the work involved.

On the other hand, maybe you could invest in some arboreal snakes for the huge viv, since they like lots of room, and just get a little enclosure for the ball.
