    what sized tubs

what sized tubes would you guys use for 20 female mice and 1 male i have been using 10 gallon aquariums. I've found using the 1 to 20 ratio keeps my male busy to the point he dont bother the females babies as he always has another female to get pregnant. and in the last 3 months have went from just 1 cage to 7 cages so i need to find a nice sized tote or tub that can be made easily into a mouse breeder cage that then could have a rack built for them to fit into

average litter size i been getting is 12 just had 1 that had a massive litter of 16 babies female was so fat the last couple days i had to put the drinking tube to her mouth her back legs were 1/2 inch from touching she was so fat

but i plan on getting 10 to 20 of breeding sized balls for this next season. all but the balls i will get will depend on money left over from buying the female balls so i figure allot of the other snakes won't be adults ready to breed. but plan on couple different types of milk-snakes and couple color morphs of the ones i get. and some mandarin rat-snakes and some gray banded king-snakes then some ringed python spotted python woma python children's python. then some of the smaller boa species. had it figured last night total of 15 different species in all i got 2 spare rooms to use that are 12x24x8 foot plan on making my own racks each rack will only hold 1 species of snake

already got some ball pythons, green tree pythons, blood pythons and biggest I've got Burmese python but planing on getting rid of the burm (already breeding size) all the above but the burm are yearling's

so any thoughts on what style and size tube or tote would help out loads in getting this all set up figured i'd get the mice colony up and running first then start the rats when i get the balls since they will basicly go straight into breeding when i get them

21 adult mice in a 10 gallon aquarium?

    sounds cruel to me.

I ran 1.8 when I used tanks. And even that seemed crowded.

    Re: what sized tubs

you'd have to see the cages to see i got close to 30 bucks worth of tubes inside the cages the an exercise wheel or 2 depending on how many mice are in it not all cages have 20 mice in them just 1 and thats with 3 females and close to 40 babies 41 babies to be exact.

thats why i asked what size of tote or tube to hold 20 adult mice i move females out to a group baby rearing cage and move separated females back in with males when they get done raising there babies

if you think mine sounds cruel you ought to see a couple pets shops feeder mice cages i know i counted close to 50 at petco in Kalamazoo MI and that was the ones out in the open but they were in a 20 gallon long and they had 2 cages full. i even know a breeder who uses those lab mice breeder tanks you know those Lil white things that hold about a gallon of water I've seen his with over 30 in each of his and those are made for 5 females and 1 male and are about 1/4 the size of a 10 gallon tank

most cages have 6 to 12 mice in them but can't go sticking baby mice in with adults unless you want the babies to die i got 1 cage with 7 males ie tank that gets used to hold food. 1 tank with the 3 moms and the crap loads of babies another week and moms will get put back in with the male they go with and babies will be sorted of males to male tank and females used to set up new breeder tanks. 2 cages 1 with 4 females and dozen huge babies not quite 2 weeks old(babies look more rat pups. other with 3 females 2 just had babies waiting on 3rd female to drop hers. main breeder cage is a 20 long which has 2 males and 20 females. one all the other females in other cages came out of. i rotate the females when they get close to popping i put ones that are same sized bellies in a cage then move the ones that are ready to breed again back in with the males then other 2 cages are weanling's waiting till they get to 2 months old before breeding 1 with nothing but females and other has just males(males waiting to get full sized then they get whacked and put in freezer.
