One of the eggs didn't make it.

I opened the egg box today and there was a bad smell. Tracked it down to one of the possible spider/bee eggs. He didn't make it. My husband took him out of the egg... zero movement, nada, nothing, and the umbilicus was brown.

So, we're down to the one normal that is currently half-way out of the egg and 3 other good eggs, 2 of which is probably going to be spiders from the amount of black pattern on them. The 3 guys still hasn't popped their heads out of the egg but they're definitely moving a lot more now.

    Hope they all make it.

I know it happens but I can't seem to get over it.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Sorry for the loss, it does happen, I just tossed an egg after 40 days because it collapsed and a vein broke inside making the whole egg look red
5 good one still, life is what it is and we can only try our best to pop out healthy ones, good luck with the rest of the clutch!

    Sorry to hear that

It is a good learning expierence though...

Glad to hear your babies are finally looking to leave the egg lol. All but 1 one of mine finally decided to take a look around today also. There heads are out, just waiting for them to get adventurous...Snap some pics when yours are all out and I'll do the same being that were in the same boat here!

I read your story about the wrapped umbilicus! I don't know how I would have handled something like that. I'm not brave enough to perform that kind of "rescue" work. You are a hero for giving it your best shot.

I will snap some pics, and hope to see yours soon!

My husband has some friends that want to adopt a bp, but I don't know if I can let go of these guys. Yeah, it's very funny being that I was the only one completely against this breeding experiment...

Re: One of the eggs didn't make it.

It was interesting I can tell you that much. But after reading all the posts on here, I had to try it. What stinks is that it seemed like it worked for a few minutes. When I took him out he crawled for me and moved, but when he was back in the egg he died...But, these things happen and your live and learn.

And yes, PLEASE post pics! I've been talking about your clutch a lot with my g/f that is also in this with me, and she would like to see as well lol. She was going nuts waiting for them to leave the egg, and I told her about your clutch and she didn't feel so bad afterwards

awwww. I'm sorry for your loss, that happens. But if you look on the bright side you have some healthy eggs still incubating! Keep your chin up and look forward to the upcoming eggs!

Re: One of the eggs didn't make it.

Really sorry you lost one. If it makes you feel any better, I just lost an entire clutch of butter motley corn snakes. I think a temp spike may have caused it but can't be sure.

Losing a baby so close to hatching really sucks but it happens from time to time even under the very best conditions. Hopefully the rest will start coming out soon and put your mind at ease.
