    Breeding possibilities

    Hey

I am looking into breeding corn snakes. I am gonna be buying two from BHB if I can make it down to Toronto on the sept expo.

I am going to be buying:

    Anerythristic Cornsnake Male

    Hypomelanistic Cornsnake Female

(Note: Either could be reversed sex, so the aner i could end up getting female... not sure that it matters though)

What could I create with these two corns?

    Thanks

    Re: Breeding possibilities

If they were not het for anything else, the offspring would come out normal, het for both hypo and anery, which is het for ghost.
    Under Construction.....

Okay, so then If I raised a male and female of that clutch and bred them I have a chance at anerys, hypos and ghost?

(I may be incorrect, I have very little knowledge about snake genetics)

Yes, and a chance of normals with varied hets as well, as far as I know.

    Sweet

    Now another question

    Lol sorry

    But anyway

If I then raised a Ghost and Anery or Ghost and Hypo what would I get out of those two combos?

    Thanks. Last question I promise

Ghost and anery, I would think you would get anerys het for hypo.

Ghost and a hypo, you'd get hypos het for anery....I think...

    ....Just my guess though.

So far so good! Just to add though, if you're talking about breeding a hypo or anery from the F2, then they would also be possible het for the other morph. But assuming they are not het, then you have it 100% correct!

To the OP, you should try and get something that is also het or homo for a pattern mutation, probably wouldn't be much more getting two animals that were het for motley or bloodred, and would allow you to hatch morphs in the F1. Just a thought.

Ill see what I can do! It was my goal to get animals that were Het for certain morphs first. So if I can I deff will!!

One mroe question, Is there anything else besides a Ghost, Anery and Hypo that I can create using these three snakes?

And if so what would I breed to obtain a 4th morph out of these 3 snakes?

Thanks! (also this is assuming I cannot get anything that is Het)

    EDIT:

Also, I am thinking of getting a Motley instead of a Anery. We'll see though because its 25$ for the anery, and like 60$ for the Motley I think. So in the end itll come down to how much money I have at the expo

Also, if I get a Motley, can I produce morphs in the F1 with the Hypo, or does it have to be a regular corn that is Het for Motley?Or will they both achieve the same?

Nothing else. The only snakes you can produce with those are normals, anery, hypo, and ghost.

Just get an anery motley. They shouldn't be more than $25-30 at a show. You could even probably get a ghost motley for less than $50. And all of the cornsnakes except for one are recessive morphs. The only known dominant one is the tessera morph.

So unless the other snake is het for the trait, you won't produce any visuals in the F1, only hets.
