free/easy video editing software?

hey guys, i've been wanting to make a video of me candling my clutch of BP eggs. but i need video editing software to do it, because as you know, you don't always get movement. it's sometimes a lot of waiting, and i don't want the video to be 10 minutes long for 10 seconds of movement, yaknow?

now, Windows used to come with Movie Maker...but i have crappy, lame, Windows 7, and apparently it left out that little gem.

is there any good, basic editing software out there i could use for this kind of thing?

any help is appreciated!

They left it out because people complained of "bloatware". If you are running windows 7, you still get movie maker for free.....

thanks! i guess that is a very valid complaint. now if only we could get computer manufacturers to leave off bloatware, like all those dumb movie subscription trials, anti virus trials...etc.
