Pre-season plan...
Hi all, sorry if my posting is very long.. but I believe each of us must have gone through this kind of mind boggling pre planning or thinking (not sure, what is the right word for it)
I bought a pair of juvenile lemon pastels in early 2008 with a determination of getting a superpastels in 2 years time... Those 2 were the only ballpythons that I bought during that time (I bought a pair of cornsnakes too... got 17 eggs in 2009)... So money is tight... I figured I better of learning on how to take care of my snakes and breeding them while appreciating them as a lovely pets..... I'm fortunate enough to breed my male to a friend female lemon pastel and got 9 hatchlings last week...

and I loan my female pastel to another friend, bred to spider, mojave, cinny males... I'm praying for a bumblebee... We got 4 eggs which already 3 weeks in the incubator..

While waiting for these eggs to hatch... I was having this thinking that I need another 2-year plan like the one I successfully achieved with the super pastel... So what is next?
Money is tight... recessive is out of my plan... I'm looking at my preferrence... I'm a yellow guy.. I love bright yellow ball... Desert and vanilla are out of budget... so I figure, better go for triple combo yellow snake.... My decision is to get a SPINNER BLAST... (is there a super form of spinner blast?)
What I have now,
1.2 proven lemon pastels
1.2 superpastel hatclings
0.1 spider (belong to a friend reserved for me)
So today bought myself a beautiful 650g pinstripe boy (my 1st purchase in 2 years time). I'm hoping to pair him to 2 girls, spider and lemon pastel and hope for the best... (I know that I can plan all the details but at the end it is up them to co-operate) Along the way, both my friends want to add fire and lesser to our existing breeding project...
So we are looking at 2011 for spinner, lemon blast, (along with normal, spider, pinstripe, pastel, and whatever odd that come with it)... 2012 hopefully can see killerbee, bumblebee, lemon blast, spinner, superpastel etc...
Since I'm a newbie in this snake breeding things, I would like to know your honest opinion... My friends and I are not making money from this... We just love our ball and so far this is the only way to get different morph in a cheap way.....right now, I'm preparing to expand my rat breeding to support my additional family.... any thought is appreciated

Re: Pre-season plan...
Hi,
Well if yellow is your prefference how do you feel about fireflys?
As you already have two female pastels at least one of which is breedable age you could trade for the fire male this year and make them in one of two years.
Plus it puts you on the track for BlkEL's

Fireflys definitely on my target list... I can't let go my two proven breeder female pastels. Both of them will be bred to the pinstripe and a bumblebee... now I'm searching around for a fire and a lesser... and trying to talk my friend into buying them....
What is BlkEL??? sorry I'm a newbie..

I'm curious why you said recessives are out of your budget? You could affordably get a pair of het's of what you're interested in and raise them up on your next 2 year plan and breed them together to produce your favorite recessive!

Re: Pre-season plan...
Sounds like a good plan to me!
I would perhaps suggest getting ahold of a Lesser Platty - they can come up with some really interesting stuff. Lesser bees, king pins and lesser pastels are all gorgeous, and further down the line you could think about emporer pins and queen bees!
(P.S. That super pastel is BEAUTIFUL! )

Oohh I see.. of course somewhere down the line... if we can get a fire... BlkEL will be in the plan...
For the recessive, it is just too hassle to get a het here in my country... most of the time, it is expensive and might as well get a female recessive and breed to something like superpastel so that can get pastel het something... I definitely fall for a clown....

Yep definitely want to limit the offsprings too. That is the reason we go for a "joint venture breeding".... Don't want to end up with a 100 snakes in my small room.... ( 50 is OK though.... )
