Re: carpet and ball
The breeding is possible. It's called a hybrid because the snakes are not in the same species of python.
Hybridization is a touchy topic. Many people do not agree with it; these two pythons would never meet in the wild, so breeding them together is a form of humans playing God (totally an opinion and not one I necessarily agree with).
If you would breed these two animals together and produce offspring, you would have to make VERY sure you sold them for what they were. There are worries about hybrids getting mixed into pure blood lines, as well.
Just FYI

Re: carpet and ball
One of the CRAZY thing about the family Pythonidae is that so far we've seen crosses across ALL the genii (is that the correct spelling of the plural of genus?)
We've seen python(genus) x python hybrids, python x morelia hybrids, morelia x liasis hybrids, python x aspidites hybrids, morelia x aspidites hybrids, morelia x morelia hybrids..
The only genus I haven't seen crossed into another genus is the dwarf python genus Antaresia.. but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done, I just haven't seen it.
It seems that just about all the pythonidae snakes are able to hybridize with each other, the tricky thing is getting different species to mate.

Re: carpet and ball
Some of them are really pretty and the hybrid offspring can breed, but I don't think there's really much of a demand for hybrids so if you were successful you'd probably be stuck with a bunch of a babies. Just something to consider. You might check out hybridhaven.net I know there are a bunch of hybrid breeders/lovers there and plenty of pics and info to look through.
