So, I read a lot of posts on the shelf life of Chlorohexadine and there never seemed to be a definitive answer. It seems many people said a week, many said just one use, and many said much longer. I have ten 41q Sterilite tubs in my rack and I use newspaper as substrate. When my BP's defecate, I just pull the tub out, take out the newspaper, spray the tub and wipe it down with lots of Chlorohexadine, put newspaper back in, snake back in and thats it, done. So, I am cleaning 1-2 tubs every other day or so. Right now, I am dumping my Chlorohexadine spray bottle every week and mixing a new batch.
On another note, my vet gave me a .2% small bottle of Chlorohexadine to treat my dog for urinary problems. My dog is prone to Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's) and my vet said to (sorry if this is gross).....spray 10mm of the solution up his sheath for 2-3 days straight once a month, and this will help clean him out and keep the UTI's away. So, the Chlorohexadine is good for months according to my vet. I have attached a photo of the bottle. I know it may not be exactly the same Chlorohexadine as we all use, but it has to be close right? I guess nobody knows, I just did not see any clear answers on this subject and no posts since October of 2009. Thanks for any replies.
