    What are Proven Breeders?

I understand how a Het can be a Proven breeder, but what really confuses me is why you would advertise a Dom as a proven Breeder. If the Allele is Dom then it should pass on regardless, so why advertise a Dom as proven breeder. Can anyone help me with this because I'm intending to breed my new female pastel in a couple of years and was wondering if buying a baby pinstripe would do me any good. I know its a dominant trait, but I have some breeder friends who are trying to sell me thier breeder male for 500 dollars when I can get a baby for 200. My pastel just had her first meal last night so I don't need a breeder male right now, but I don't want to buy one that won't produce either. so can someone explain to me why a pinstripe would not produce any pinstripe offspring? Thanks

A proven breeder just means that the snake has successfully bred, and produced hatchlings. It has nothing to do with genetics.

    Re: What are Proven Breeders?

A proven breeder is an animal that has actually bred in the past. Some animals are difficult breeders or they never breed. A proven breeder is one that has bred for the owner in the past. There is one caveat, just because an animal has bred successfully in the past is no guarantee for the future.

    Re: What are Proven Breeders?

A proven breeder is an animal that has bred AND produced before. You buy a proven breeder male and you know his stuff is working and he knows what to do already and will know what to do. You buy a proven breeder female then you know she has already laid eggs and she know's what's going on come breeding season.

    Welcome to BP.net btw!!!

    Re: What are Proven Breeders?

ok, That makes alot more sense to me. The way he described it was that he has proven to produce the trait, and made it sound like if I bought a baby it would not pass it along, not that he would breed period. Thanks for the Help.

    Re: What are Proven Breeders?

Depends on the context. A proven breeder is an animal proven to breed successfully.

A proven het is an animal that has produced homozygous offspring when paired with a homozygous animal or another het.
