Sounds like his eyes may be infected. You can try getting some cheap saline solution and gently rinse his eyes. Ive had to do this with leos. They dont love it, but it does help. As for the temps, What are you measuring them with? The basking spot should be a surface temperature. And monitors need it HOT. A surface temp of 130-140 degrees should be obtained. There are some people that have basking spots of upwards of 180-200 degrees, not saying this is what you should have.

I know there are some very knowledgeable monitor people on here and im sure they'll answer it soon. Im sure Mumps will be chiming in, and they are one of the people you should deffinetly listen too.

Also, your monitor is most likely WC. Buying from pet stores is usually the worst idea. Trying to save a couple of bucks initially can cause you to spend hundreds later. Almost all monitors that are imported die within the first years of life. Buying from a reputable breeder is the best choice you can make. It also helps to curb the wild harvesting of the monitors.

actually i did, turns out its a parasite it got in its eyes, hes ok now thanks to the vet and god! and u guys thank u guys, today hes been more alert and moving around and ate hes first pinkie mouse today at 6 pm,im so glad i came over here and asked for help, the petshop where i got it from payed the cost of the vet care,it was 56 dollars for the eye drops, this parasite keeps them from opening their eyes and therefor no monitor would try to eat or move this way, keep an eye out for ur monitors the vet said that somehow the oil spills are producing some tipe of bacteria in the sea that whend it hits land turns into parasites and all animals are getting it,DONT TAKE UR MONITORS NEAR ANY BEACH!!! that is all again thank u for ur help and info.

Man to be honest i dont even remember the name of it,its some long wierd scientific name,i was told that its found mostly in birds and lizards and crocs, its rare but its deadly if not stoped in time,im gona go look for my recipt and see if it says the name of the parasite and il let u know asap wilomn, bad waste and oil and other nasty things are what triggers the parasite ,its found near shore ,sea, lakes, canals, that means that the pet shop got the monitor near sea or other water land, well makes sense its a water monitor they are found near water, i cant take any pictures yet, i have the camara but i lost the usb cable that came with it on the moving, il go by best buy and get a new one soon, il trow pictures of the set up too that way u guys can guide me better if eveything its ok ,i love this water monitor i dont know but theres something about him/her , i stayed up all nite just looking at it and making sure it was not gona die on me,awfull feeling to see him there with hes eyes shut and him wanting to eat but could not cuss he ould not see, i helped him eat by putting the food close to him untill he grab it,im glad eveything worked out,he made it.
