    New savannah owner pt 2

I finally got my baby savvy his/her name is elwood sorry no pics yet wood is in QT. How long will it take for him to eat? I picked wood up from wildside exotics yesterday my temps are fine good substrate. Wood just seems tired is that normal and wood will not drink out of the water dish it licks the water on side the tub but I know I got to let wood settle in I just want he/she to be ok that's all any tips.

Should eat about 1 second after you offer food.

You say temps and substrate are fine. Details?

Post a pic of its enclosure for after the quarantine period, and I'll offer tips.

I got wood in a 66qt tub I'm still waiting for my 4ft wide boamaster cage. Temps on hot side jump around from 100 to 115 cool side 80 to 70 . My substrate organic potting soil. I took wood out the hide for some scrambled eggs and he walked past it and went back to sleep in his hide. So right now I'm keeping close eye on him but I get worried about my animals you feel me.

After seeing your temps, your basking spot is too low. It should be around 130 degrees. When a herp seems "tired" it usually means it has been kept at too low of temperatures. Sometimes petstores use this to make their animals seem "tame" or "friendly" when actually they are just too cold.

Another thing is the food. Offer feeder insects. Dubia roaches are usually the best and most preffered by herp keepers. Id suggest getting a colony established now.

Also how are you achieving the basking spot? With a plastic tub, reaching 130to 140 degrees with a lamp can be really sketchy seeing as how plastic melts.

For some basic care, Id suggest going here.

    http://www.proexotics.com/care_savannah.html

Pro exotics is one of the best companies to deal with and has some of the best herps in the hobby.

Goodluck with your sav. Im hoping he does well. Many of the monitors brought into this hobby die very early on.
