This seems a little off to me.

My BF was telling me that he read in the news that a snake in FL had tried to eat an alligator and exploded. I looked at him and rolled my eyes "Seriously? That is so old! That's from years ago!" So I pull up the classic picture that's been recycled over the internet and ask him if it was that one. He couldn't remember, so I searched google news for it... Came up with an article posted 3 days ago, about a burmese exploding from the midsection after trying to eat an alligator. Conveniently, they don't provide a picture, just one of a burmese head.

I'm posting it to see if other people think it smells a little fishy as well. I would think if it happened 3 days ago, at least one of the thousands of members on here would have seen it and posted it.

Does seem a little off. And its not from any real credible news source (if there are many left out there). I dont see why the head of the burm would be missing?

Has anyone else seen this? This is my first time. Dont know really what to think, except that it is a little off, and isnt from a credible source.

It looks to be an Australian/ New Zealand oriented website. That article sounds like a re-print of the original story...meh

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that!

That is from years ago, they've even shown it on MonsterQuest at one point.

If I remember correctly, they came to the conclusion that the alligator was already dead when the snake tried to eat it, because they believed it to be impossible for a python to constrict a living alligator that size without sustaining fatal damage due to the alligators rough hide. Which does kind of make sense, I would think the armor of an alligator would do very serious damage to anything trying to crush it.

But regardless, that story is ancient and has been endlessly repeated on the internet and forever embellished.

Re: This seems a little off to me.

I have the picture on my wall from a news article a couple years back (July 29, 2007). No head is apparent in the picture (cloaca is swolen open, head is under water), the snake's midsection is burst open with alligator tail protruding out.

Considering Anacondas ear small alligators all the time, it wouldnt surprise me if large snakes that have made florida their home were eating alligators successfully.

The original snake that burst open after eating a large alligator was actually MISSING its head. It had, perhaps, been bitten off by another alligator. This is why the snake actually burst open--it was dead.

Was the neck, without the head, in the pic? Because maybe that isnt a cloaca after all.
