why do you love snakes?

so i find myself getting asked the question why i love these animals (not just snakes but all "unconventional" pets) quite often, so i forward this question on to the rest of you.

my answer is that i find the variety of herps remarkable, i really love doing research on them due to their evolutionary traits *amazingggg*. and i also love replicating their environments to make them confortable. not necessarily the exact environment but temps and humidity.

so what draws you in?

Not just snakes, I love all reptiles.

Because they look beautiful, have amazing personalities, look amazing in their enclosures, and just fascinate me. Very cool creatures. And even though it is said (not proven) that they can't feel love, I think they are just remarkable creatures. And they all have their own attitudes

Next tiem, ask them why they have a hamster, cat, or dog. A lot of the reasons usually are the same

I love snakes because they are just so fascinating.. as soon as i think i've learned all i can about one species i find a new fascinating snake i just have to learn about. I also love taking care of snakes... watching a snake shed or eat is just great! Feeding time never gets old for me! They way snakes move is just beautiful and how they can support almost half their body weight and just levitate is amazing. I could really go on and on...Most of all for me is their beauty! Each snake is beautiful in its own way =]

I love all animals for the most part. I was captivated by reptiles about five years ago when I had my first snake, which was a common garter snake. I then became intrigued by ball pythons and had wanted one after I had the garter snake. I love snakes because they are just amazing creatures! I am captivated by the way they move and also by the way they look. I never get tired of looking at ball pythons. There are so many amazing morphs and the possibilities of what can be created with these animals just blows my mind!

yes please let me correct myself. i do absolutely LOVE all animals but my passion really lies in herpetology. after my career is over i hope to obtain a degree in herpetology. kind of my long-term dream goal.

i would actually love to run a BP breeding company, or maybe even partake in a venom extraction program. i feel that would be very fulfilling. dangerous, but fulfilling. saving lives and whatnot.

I love snakes because unlike dogs or cats they dont tear up crap, they dont smell as long as you clean regurlalry, feed them once a week, I can go on vacation without having to worry about a sitter or boarding them, they dont eat my shoes, prob alot of other reasons

People always ask me this. "Why snakes?". And honeslty I cant truly explain it. I just love them. Along with all reptiles. They are unique. They are ancient. They are one of the few captive animals kept that still truly show natural behaviors and instincts. They dont love or hate, they act in the moment. They are just truly fascinating. How can you not love them?

In my opinon, they are perfect. They really are some of the most successful creatures in history. They are so efficient.

Theres alot of reptiles that I really like but there is something about ball pythons that I have always been drawn to over anything else, so I cant see myself doing anything else!

hen I was 9/10 I was in Texas with my dad and his cousin and we were diggin up fossils in his (my dad's cousin's) creek, which had dried up because of a heat wave. I ended up a good distance away from them exploring on my own and came across a bit of water that hadnt dried up and saw something in it... and then that something saw me. Next thing I know I have a 3~4' copper head chasing me down. I back away from it while making as little motion as possible (except my feet) and call to the adults. My dad's cousin comes over, and chops it's head off.

After that I was hooked, wanted to know everything about them, wanted to be around them, and just loved them. ~_~ Same thing happened with Canadian Geese about 3 years later, but I didnt fall for them as much. I guess I'm prone to Stockholm's Syndrome
