Different incubation methods?
I'm trying to find different methods for incubation.. I have seen plenty on using egg crate over the substrate, and I understand that.
But I have now seen people using egg crate over just water?
I was wondering how that works? if you need to seal the lid or just a regular lid?
I havnt found much info on it.
Thanks

Re: Different incubation methods?
I could tell you anything you want to know about it, at least what I know from experience.
Its what Im doing right now
Eggs are on day 51

I did some trials with box setups before my eggs got here. I found that since my lid didnt fit tightly, that I just needed to use Press and Seal under the lid to fix it.
I will say that I'll never use any Perlite or Vermiculite, just straight water for me from here on out.

so you do seal it?
how often are you airing it out? I read some peaople do it weekly, and some people do it only before hatching?
how much water?

YEah I sealed mine up completely, with the P&S, then put my lids on.
I have been airing it out once a week during incubation, now that they are getting closer to hatching and producing their own heat, Im airing out once a day. After they start pipping I plan on setting them up on wet paper towels so they can crawl out onto that.
I used 3 layers of the light "diffuser" grating. I then filled the tubs up with water about halfway up the grates. i had to do it like this because the bottoms of my tubs were shaped a little funny. I do feel better knowing that my eggs are further up off the water though too.

4 how much water?
1.) simply put the top on. Yes humidity will escape the tub but it will still be plenty high enough... at least it is for me.
2.) I don't open the top until I see a head sticking out. Yep, don't open it a single time during the incubation 55 or so days.
3.) already answered in number 2
4.) eh, probably about a half of an inch.

Re: Different incubation methods?
I have a quick question...How are they being heated?...Regular incubators ("Store bought")?..DIYs ("Home made")?...Would'nt you be able to put a UTH under one and do it that way, as long as the temps are controled?..Just wondering how many different ways are used.....
Not to Thread Jack, just figured it somewhat pertains to the OPs Q...
