    Shipping overseas?

How would you go about shipping snakes overseas? I plan on getting orders to go overseas in the next year or so. It would be worth it to to ship them over, to a certain point of course. That is if i doesn't cost me an arm and leg. I would love to have my snakes with me, if not i could probably find a breeder that i could pay to hold/breed them until i come back. They could keep the babies and get a holding fee from me. Does anyone know how popular ball pythons are overseas (japan or europe)? Just trying to plan ahead. I would rather have options then to be scrambling to find a way when the time comes.

    Re: Shipping overseas?

I am not 100% sure on this but my understanding is that you need a lot of paperwork done (importing animals) and it costs quite a bit to do 1 day shipping overseas. Especially for a live animal.

There are a couple of breeders in Europe. Not aware of their popularity in Japan.

    Re: Shipping overseas?

It will cost you an arm and a leg though. The only time it makes sense to ship over seas is when you have $2,000+ animals. At minimum it's $1,000 to ship, some places $2,000. Then you have to go through all the paper work and customs, which takes up to 6 months. And, when you finally have that all done it can take several days to ship the animal (it doesn't just ride on one or two trucks), rather than overnight. Imagine what can happen in those days and you have a "live arrival" guarantee.

    IMO forget it.

    You need CITES paperwork.

Its possible to get, just takes a long time.

I'd suggest looking into it if you are serious.

    Re: Shipping overseas?

    Hello,
maybe you can ask some breeders who attends shows in europe. I once asked for the shipping costs to europe, and I was told that 1 to 30 animals are about 700. But I don't know anything about the paperwork.
And yes, balls are just very popular in europe.
    best regards, Timo

    Re: Shipping overseas?

It's a pain, my friend tried to go through it and finally said it wasn't worth it for only a small one time a year shipment. He ended up connecting with somone that already had the import/export stuff set-up for reptiles and was able to get it done that way. It was a purely luck chance, but worked out for him.
