Hatching question
I have 2 of my eggs hatching and they are just now with their heads out. What do I do now just leave them alone for a bit or what? One keeps going back in his egg as soon as I open the lid I want to let them hatch naturely. What do I look for in terms of trouble?
Here is the picture I posted

Re: Hatching question
Leave them be. They will pop in and out of the egg for the next day or so. If it takes them more than 3-5 days to come out after pipping, I'd be concerned.

Re: Hatching question
This time is very important for them--they're breathing air now, but they are absorbing the rest of the yolk in their egg.
This yolk will sustain them for the next 2 weeks while they go through their first shed, and then a few days to a week later they will begin eating.
You don't want them to come out early, because then they'll have this huge yolk sack hanging off of them, and you'll have to put them on wet paper towel and hope they can finish absorbing it properly, or they'll lose that big initial boost of nutrition.
It is cute how they use their egg as a hide, and pop back into it when they are disturbed.

Re: Hatching question
Just a quick update I just checked the tubs and the other tub now has one pipped...This is exciting, but I will let them come out on thier own and not disturb them. I do have lids on the tubs currectly to keep the moisture in. Shoudl I take them off or leave them on? Each tub has a single air hole in it.

Re: Hatching question
Leave the lid on - don't need escaping babies!

Re: Hatching question
Leave it on--they don't require much ventilation, and they are prone to dehydration when they are this young. Also, the membranes in the egg need to stay moist while they finish absorbing everything.
