    Incubating while on vacation

Our seven pied x pied clutch is on day 37 and we leave for the beach on Saturday and will be gone 10 days which gets us home on day 52. Incubation temps at 88.5 and just looked tonight ant about half are showing slight dimples. I guess I am just asking if there is anything I might be able to do before we leave. I do use press n seal and I thought about taking that off before we leave in case any hatch so they might be able to breathe...but not sure...anymore ideas?

    Thanks!

as long as they can get air without dropping the humidity too much and not losing power you should be ok. You don't have someone who can stop by and open the press n seal to let some fresh air in about half way thru your vacation?

Sadly enough we are the only herpsters I know of around here...my biggest concern is the person stopping by to check causing more harm than good. I think everything will be OK as long as power is no lost. Boy it would be nice to have a portable igloo cooler incubator right about now.

Take the Glad Press and Seal off. If you're using six quart Sterilite tubs, there's enough air getting in from the lid (the lid doesn't make an air tight seal) You may want to just put a small dish of water in there, in case any of them do come all the way out early. However, I doubt any will be out on Day 52 - pipped maybe, but not out (though nothing is guaranteed! LOL)

LOL, the important dates always seem to fall at inconvenient times. My het clown was due to lay when we were going on vacation. She managed to lay for me just hours before we were to leave. Now the eggs are due to hatch right in the middle of the Daytona reptile expo.

    Re: Incubating while on vacation

Last year our spider x normal clutch pipped and came out 2 days before we left for vacation and I was really concerned about this clutch this year. She layed 33-34 days post pre-lay shed...If she would have layed a week earlier then the babies would have pipped while we are gone. I guess it could still happen while we are gone, but I really don't think anything will happen until we return.

    Re: Incubating while on vacation

Well we went on vacation and came home and the eggs seemed to be fine. We got home last night and here is what I found this afternoon...talk about timing...

More to come as they come out of the eggs...thanks for looking...really excited!!
By the way it is day 52/53 and the incubation temps are set at 88.5 on the herpstat and the back up rancor. As you can see three of the eggs are still plump and they candle good. Will paost more later.

    *POP*

Lol. They look really good for day 52. I think most are moldy or really deflated or hyper diimpled. Yours look almost new.

Ya darn jerks with your pieds...
