    How many holes?

So As I said in another thread I had been sick alot for june, very weak but still going to work. I didn't get my racks set up until recently.

I wonder though is 14 holes enough? My humidity is a little high, 71-76 percent but my temperatures are decent especially in my little spider's tub. it never falls below 79 ambient and is usually 81 to 92, 94 in one hide which I don't understand.

The top tub is more trouble. It never falls below 75 thats true and there's still a portion thats in the low 80's and the basking is about 91.

So how many holes are in your rack tubs? Should I add more? This is a CB70 from RB.

    Re: How many holes?

Depends on so many different factors

How tight are the tubs to the rack?

How big is the water bowl?

    Room heated?

    Humidified?

    What kind of substrate?

Its really going to be trial and error

The spider has a tiny water bowl since he's so young, the Pastel in the top had a medium sized dog bowl.

It's in the kitchen ambient temp is 72-7

    No Extra Humidity is added.

    Newspaper substrate

The tubs are tightly fit to the top.

    Re: How many holes?

I wish I could tell you whether or not you need to

What I listed were just a few of the factors that will play into it

Is there a draft in the room? Thats also another factor. As well as wehre the water bowl is, over the heat or not?

Just set em up and see what happens

Since they fit tightly though, I'd probably start off with 5 holes and go from there. That at least gives you ventilation.

    Re: How many holes?

I made sure to keep the water bowl away from the heat. I dunno if there's a draft really. I already have 14 holes in each.

    Re: How many holes?

    Thats probably plenty

Just put something in there to measure the humidity and then tape up holes as needed or add bigger/smaller water bowl.

Pay attention to it since you'll get fluctuations, especially during the season changes.

I have something inside, it reads 72 to 76 percent mostly. I am just worried thats a touch to high.

    Re: How many holes?

    For Balls, yes it is.

Id double check my measuring device

Get some air moving around in the room

I have 6qt egg tubs setup with small bowls in a 60% humidity room and the boxes fit tight.

They all have 5 holes in the fronts and the humidity stays at the room humidity.

Whats your humidity like down there?

    Re: How many holes?

Alabama is always very humid especially in the summer. I had a few people tell me 70's were okay and others not.

I am going to leave both fans on low 24/7 in that room from now on. Maybe that will help. if not I'll add another hole tomorrow.

It's a very cheap digital device from walmart, only good for measuring humidity, maybe I should by a better one.

I have 6 holes on each side and 2 in front. Rich from RB reccomended the side holes and number. I added the 2 front holes after.
