Using a Thermostat

I'm setting up my BPs new tank and I have a thermostat to use with the heat mat. Do i put the probe between the mat and tank or on the outside of the mat under the tank and tape it to hold it in place? Or does it not matter because i don't really have any tape to use with it right now.

Just attach the UTH outside on bottom to the glass tank. Then tape the t-stat probe directly on the uth not between.

now even though its right underneighth the glass (and the substrate being paper towels) setting it to 90 degrees f. wont be to hot will it? I have a helix thermostat by the way.

I don't see how it could be to hot that's what the thermostat is for.

What type of tape is best for something like this since it stays pretty hot? Will duct tape melt or anything?

I usually use foil tape or duct tape, never had a problem.

90 is fine. Optimum is 92-94 IIRC.
