Being the Android junkie that I am I thought I'd let you fellow gadget kids know that Google Voice is no longer invitation only.
I must say, I use it all the time and LOVE it. Free SMS, visual voice mail (the transcriptions are priceless), and free calling (lots of ifs ands and buts, works for me though ).

This is an extremely useful tool I've been using it since mid '09, it's become an invaluable resource for me.
