Behavioral question re: egg laying
So I've got a 4 year old virgin female crestie who likes to lay eggs even though they're infertile, and my GF and I have noticed that her behavior seems to go in cycles around it. She seems to get "friendlier" as she's about to lay (jumps toward you looking excited, wants to climb all over you, etc), and we've noticed some behavior that could be classed as "defensive" afterward, almost as if she's guarding the egg. (She'll twitch her tail and "bark" at you sometimes.)
Has anybody else noticed anything like this? Is it common for female cresties to behave this way? Personally, I don't think it's anything I'm going to get worried about, but it's interesting to observe.

Re: Behavioral question re: egg laying
I haven't really witnessed either of the behaviors you have described. I have taken eggs right out from underneath females if they happened to be still on them when I was checking for eggs and they went on their way like it was no big deal. I know that chahouas and leachies can be very territorial over their eggs though. The barking and tail wagging does sound like your gecko is guarding her eggs though--which isn't terribly strange, and sounds pretty cute.

Re: Behavioral question re: egg laying
Well, maybe my gecko is just a little nuts compared to your herd of them - she has always been a little bit "unique," at least compared to my brother's male, who basically seems like a bump on a log most of the time.
The defensive bit is almost a bit cute presuming you're not too startled/intimidated by it. It was pretty surprising the first time she did it, though, which I suppose is the point.
