Staring at black light?

Currently my ball Adda is staring up at the heat light I have above his enclosure. He seems to only ever do this when he is in "hunting" mode, when he is hungry. I also find he will follow, and sometimes strike at the light if I move it while it's on.

My main question is, is this bad for snakes? I've heard that black lights are bad for human eyes, and I don't know if it's even really a black light or simply a heating light that is painted black. It's one of those ones you get from wal-mart in the pet section for "night use". Are these bulbs safe for snakes, i.e are they just painted over normal lights?

P.s I'm feeding him first thing tomorrow.

He probably sees the heat signature that the bulb gives off and that is what he is striking at.

The bulb you have is most likely not an actual black light. It is probably just painted purple on the inside.
