Burmese Python Dumping in FL
Hey guys. I have just moved to Florida, and I do love it here, but the one this I don't like is the burmese python dump in the everglades. So I was wondering if we can create a awareness group so the dump can stop. Hopefully people find dumping pythons and other reptiles wrong.
I'm saving up to create a place that can take care of Burm's and other Herps if the care taker cannot take care of them, or tag along with the Humane Society, if needed.
I'm going to try and raise awareness for this cause will you help me?
If you have a facebook please join, a website will be up soon.

I really would love to make this happen.

Please don't believe everything that our dear Sen. Bill Nelson spouts, next he's gonna start saying the martians are gonna be landing soon.

Its very widely known that the reason for the burms in Florida isnt' owner release. It was hurricane Andrew that destroyed multiple import facilities. That is how the snakes got there, not a whole bunch of people who let their pets go.

Welcome to the Sunshine State.
From what I have heard, you will not be able to keep Burms in Florida.
No more ROC Permits after July 1, 2010.

Re: Burmese Python Dumping in FL
Find one single case of a burmese python released in the Everglades by an owner? None of the snakes captured in the Everglades has been shown to be a released pet. It's a lie.
There's plenty of information on how the snakes got started, please feel free to read up on it.
If you want to have a rescue for burmese pythons given to you by owners, it'll be because the state of Florida has made it nearly impossible to own them. Also it'll be difficult for you to own them, since you already need a special license to own one, and now they are going to be outlawed(except for those already owned with licenses).

Re: Burmese Python Dumping in FL
Do not "help" something that is not true. This will only give those who actually believe the lies another reason to believe them. Instead, please help us spread awareness. Educate the public about these animals in every aspect.
Political agenda, supporters and $$$. Those are the only things that motivate the senator of Florida. Like others have said. It has been proven time and time again that these snakes were not released. Were there really hundreds of thousands of burm owners in Fla at any given time? Do you think there have ever been that many people in Fla who had a burm as a pet? Even if there wasn't proof otherwise, I would never believe that people drove all the way to the southern tip of Fla to release an animal they did not want. Think about it. It didn't happen that way. If by chance you had a snake you didn't want and you didn't live in Fla, would you go that far to let it go in the wild? No. The best thing you can do for our cause is to join USARK and PIJAC. Pay attention to the emails you get from them. Pay attention to the updates posted by Johnathan Brady here on bpnet in the laws ans legislation forum. Follow the directions they give when its time for us to make public comment again. Call fax or email. Or whatever else they instruct. And ask all your friends and family to do it as well.
This is where we need help the most. This is what will benefit the snakes and the keepers the most.
Fla is already *:cens0r:* by passing this new law. The rest of the states do not need to follow suit.
