    Too much shedding?

Does anybody out there know, besides mites. what could cause a snake to shed more often. I have my one girl whos sitting at 2700g. Ive had her going thru the whole breeding cycle for a while now, she hasnt eaten in months so I dont think its mites that would have coem off a rodent. and being her size she wouldnt be sheding that often normally.
She gave me one on April 6, then May 14, and now shes entering another shed cycle. The fact that I havent seen a ovulation leaves me just really confused on whats going on with her . is shedding more often part of the breeding process? or something else not so plesant

    Re: Too much shedding?

Thats about one shed every month which is fairly normal. But it is rather peculiar that she is shedding but not eating.

Sometimes they will shed continuously if they sustain an injury.

    Re: Too much shedding?

She could be shedding as part of the follicular development cycle. There's four stages of it, each generally marked with a shed. Only a month between each shed seems kind of quick even for that though, I don't think any of our girls have gone through the process that quickly. Have you tried palpating her to see if you can feel any follicles?

have you looked at her closely to examine for scale/belly rot or burns? The only time i've heard of successive sheds like this is in response to an injury.

    Re: Too much shedding?

I palpate her every few days or so, now that I think I've got the hang of it, but its probably because the largest of the follicles are fairly big now, roughly pingpong ball size I believe and from what I can feel there are 6, not all of them feel that size tho.

I Dont know where scale rot could spring up from, she hasnt been kept on anything wet, not till recently just to aid in raising the humidity a bit, andthat was only recently and for a couple days. right now her belly is pink, but its from her going into shed. I dont think she could have gotten burned. every time I see her shes on the cooler side of her enclousure I might need a new thermostat maybe , but her belly has been fine in apperance
