UTH help; Does the brand matter?

My darn lights have burnt out and I hate replacing them. I found some UTH's at the local pet shop recently and was going to pick some up and I was going to get some tubs. Finally.

I think I remember seeing a post on a thread about the brand of the UTH, saying one is better then the other and what not.

These ones are the exo-terra ones. As long as I get the thermostat and Accurite weather station thermometer I should be good right? Or would you suggest a different brand? The exo-terra ones were the only ones I could find.

Exoterra is probly fine, though I have never used them. I use the Zoomed brand, but that's because most stores around here only carry those. I would however stay away from getting those starter kit uth's that cost like $15 and come with a bunch of stuff for a starter cage, usually sold at chain stores. For some reason I just don't trust them.

Hey, a good but cheap thermostat is the Retitemp 500R. They are 22 - 30$. I have heard many bad things about them but also many many good things.

try it out, if it doesn't work out im sure you can return it

This is about the same price, but digital, so if nothing else, it'll be much easier to use. The dial on the Reptitemp sucks.

I use the Exo-Terra Desert UTH, and I like them for a couple of reasons.
    1) They have a higher wattage rating than alot of other brands which means it is easier for them to hold their temps in the winter.
    2) they also come with the little stick-on riser feet.

They do have an adhesive side, which will allow you to permanently stick it to the enclosure, however, I only use aluminum tape, so that I can remove and re-use them. You will definitelty want to make sure you are controlling them with a thermostat when using these UTH's. Hope this helps...

For my qt tubs I generally prefer the zoomed UTHs. They have a little bulk to them which is nice. They also come with the little riser feet.
