My first Setup ( terrarium, temperature, ... )

    Hey guys,

SO i am going to buy a 90x50x40cm or 90x45x45cm Betonplex Terrarium
    ( Betonplex = Pywood or epoxy ... )
Here is an example of a betonplex 'wood' terrarium

Then i am buying the Thermo Control Pro II to regulate everything.
    Also a 40watt and a 60watt Heatlamp, (to test)
    Also a Thermo mat 20watt 39x37,5cm. ( inside, under a layer plexiglass/foam ) ( >Example< )
There also will be a TL lamp in it for 'day'light ( >Example< )

    Now,
I have no clue of how to attach all these things to the Thermo Control pro II.
But i think i can figure it out if i get it in my hands.

    Questions:
-Is this a perfect combo for my ballpython ?
( Or will this be a perfect setup )
-Do u have tips or so with this setup ?
( Change something ... or watch out for this ... )

This is for my first snake (Ballpython) so i hope i can create an ideal habitat.
    Thanks for your time,
    Peter.

Re: My first Setup ( terrarium, temperature, ... )

I take it you are overseas?

I am not familiar with the thermo Control Pro but if it is anything like any other thermostat then its fairly simple to setup. In your case, since you are putting the UTH inside the tank and covering it, its going to be a little more complicated. The probe for the thermostat needs to be placed directly on the heat mat and should not be able to come in contact with the reptile. The best way to do that would to be to route out a little groove where the probe and wire could sit under the heat mat, but I don't know if that is an option for you.

The daylight bulb is really unnecessary. Ball pythons don't need supplemental lighting. If you want it for just lighting so you can see the tank, go for it. But ball pythons will spend all day hiding, so you will basically be lighting a pretty tank with nothing in it XD.

As long as your house temp is above 75*F normally you won't need the heat lamps.

You will also need something to monitor temps and humidity. You will want a digital thermometer with a probe to measure the hot spot (over the heat mat) and a digital thermometer to measure the cool side and a digital hygrometer. Note how important digital is

Obviously you will also need hides and a water bowl

Yeah, I got my first ball Python 2 weeks ago and within a few days i got sick of taking temps with an ir thermometer and reading an inaccurate dial hygrometer. I bought a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with hygrometer for $12, now i don't now about overseas but I'm sure you can get a similar product for around the same price!

So, my heat mat will be enough to hold temperature inside the tank ?
The tank is a good insulator so it could be.

ps: yes i live in Belgium.
    Thanks,

your heat mat will do its job of providing a 90-91*F hot spot. The cool side will just depend on the regular ambient temperature of the room.
