    Just curious about something.....

My female bp that has been fasting for the past 6 months - went into shed last night - I was sort of shocked because she certainly hasn't grown at all in the past 6 months since she wouldn't eat anything - is this normal for them to shed during a long fast??

Is the shedding process hard on the snake?? I worry because she has got to be weak/rundown from not eating for all this time - I just wondered if this shedding process would take its toll on her.

Also, could this impending shed possible kick start her back on to eating??

Some of mine have shed during a fast. I have also noticed that this sometimes entices them to eat. I usually try to feed them a weaned or pup live rat right after their shed to get them going again. Good luck.

Thanks WooHoo - I will watch for her to shed out and then attempt to feed her that evening - that would be awesome if she would eat.

My female normal had been fasting for nearly 5 months and then she shed as well. But when she did I thought she looked for lively and aware. So I decided to try and feed her, it took her a few minutes but she finally ate!!

Maybe you could have the same luck.

    Re: Just curious about something.....

thanks cschub13 for that input - I sure hope I have some luck in getting her to eat again.

I had just scheduled a vet appt for her for tomorrow and then she goes into shed - something that hasn't happened for 7months - that was really odd. I cancelled the vet visit until after I see if she will resume eating again or not.

If not, off to the vet she will go for a checkup.
